Waiting in Line at Court...

So I had to go by the court today to take care of a ticket and see the judge. It's a pretty involved process that typically also involves hanging out in line. So there I was waiting at 10:00 for the 9:30 call to enter the courtroom and I overhear two people talking. The first is waxing poetic about an optimistic philosophy of life...

"When your car gets a flat tire on the way to a job interview you need to not cuss out your tire."

... Such an enlightened man, what could be his secret? The women he was talking to finally asked the relevant question...

"What month were you born... oh, you're a Virgo, that makes sense!"

... before going into a long story about how she was going to get her driver license back and then sue somebody.

And as I glanced at another women I overheard on the phone earlier leaving in a huff (she wants the house she bought while married with her husband to be all hers because she totally changed some names surrounding the deed without telling her husband and the Judge said 'maybe she should get a lawyer') I thought myself unworthy in the presence of these towering intellects.

Religions can hurt you if it's in their religion to do so, Texas Court Says

Apparently a woman who was repeatedly attacked by her congregation who swore she was possessed by demons and performed an exorcism on her, injuring her repeatedly and causing her post traumatic stress disorder gets a pass because saying they are wrong causes too much entanglement with religion.

Laura Schubert testified in 2002 that she was cut and bruised and later experienced hallucinations after the church members' actions in 1996, when she was 17. Schubert said she was pinned to the floor for hours and received carpet burns during the exorcism, the Austin American-Statesman reported. She also said the incident led her to mutilate herself and attempt suicide. She eventually sought psychiatric help.

I'm sorry, but religions don't get different laws. They get the exact same laws everybody else has to play by. The government can't go out of their way to dick with religions or give them a helping hand. They can however protect the citizenry from having their underaged daughters pinned to the floor as they shout to be let go. Applying this same kind of logic we should say that 9/11 was tragic but perfectly legal. You have a first amendment right to steal an airplane and fly it into a building killing thousands because you feel it is a central tenet of your faith that everybody should be ready to lay down their lives in the name of Islam. The supreme court had better reverse this nonsense because holy crap that is retarded. Sorry our faith says we get to violate underaged girls! Oh, okay.

My Phelps prediction.

I predict that Fred Phelps will appeal the civil judgment against him. I have it at $2.9 million, other people have $10.9 million. In either case Phelps is going to appeal and have it struck down in a heartbeat. He's going to counter sue for costs and win. This marine father who sued the church for protesting his son's funeral is going to be forced to go bankrupt for pushing this idiotic lawsuit.

I find Phelps entertaining, and I understand the theology pretty well. I think they are one of the most biblical Christian groups around, and obviously one of the most hated. Protesting funerals of dead soldiers with signs saying "Thank God for IEDs" or any number of rather disturbing signs. They believe that the War in Iraq is a punishment from God for homosexuality. Which frankly doesn't differ that much from those religious people who claimed that Katrina was punishment from God for homosexuality (though it missed the French Quarter), or Jerry Falwell claiming that 9/11 was because of homosexuality (the California wildfires have been attributed a couple times to gays). Really the only thing the Phelps have which these other groups lack is consistent faith that they are right. Other religious groups back-down at the first sign of hate... the Phelps double-down.

Well, one of the father's of a soldier killed in Iraq sued and won $2.9 million dollars from the Phelps family. This is bullshit. The Phelps broke no law in their protests, the father didn't see them at the event only later on the news, you shouldn't get money for sullied memories. Hopefully the Phelps (who are mostly lawyers) will get this overturned as the nonsense "I hate Phelps so much lets punish him for like three million dollars" crap it is.

Ofcourse nobody likes them they are immoral swine who follow the immoral actions suggested in the Bible. Anybody who does that needs to be shunned by a civilized society.

In Romanian a court case against god was dismissed on the grounds that 1) God is above the law. And 2) God doesn't have an address. Really, the the obvious truth is that the court case was dropped because there is no God. If one filed suit against Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny the case would be dropped on the same grounds.
