Interesting Math Questions

1) If 2 fish are recommended per ten gallons and a fish tank holds 35 gallons of water then how many fish could I have in the fish tank? I could have zero. I could have 35 gallons of fish. What does the recommendation have to do with anything. And why would I want to maximum number of fish? That's a stupid question.

2) According to the diagram the library wing 1 foot 10 inches by 2 feet 3 inches and is asking how large the dimensions of the new wing are if the length is 50 feet longer than the width? But, it already gave me the dimensions for the wing and it's not even large enough to stand in properly. Does the question want me to add 600 inches to one of the sides? But the question says the diagram of the wing is shown? That's a stupid question.

3) If you're a fish, and your computer is overclocked and you can make a model blush with a really tawdry joke... what was the height of the Titanic? According to Michael McGaughan (The Birth of the Titanic, page 46) the Titanic was 236 feet tall from keel to mast. If you wanted to build the model to scale you'd want to make it 2 feet 6 inches by 8.02 inches but the fact that you could build a non-scale model at 6 inches is as pointless as your computer being overclocked.

School kids are judged by how well they do on these questions. They are part of Holt Geometry questions. Really?

Teacher teaches AP history, comes off criticial of religion.

Go figure. Teaching AP European history involves being critical of religion. Sure European history heavily involves the church in so far as they ran the place since the fall of the Roman Empire, but do you have to teach them so well? What next are US history teachers going to say that the US *wasn't* founded as a Christian nation.

"How do you get the peasants to oppose something that is in their best interest? Religion."

How little things change. The point to learning history is to avoid repeating it. Perhaps in the larger sense as well as in the narrower sense. I do enjoy some of the student's comments. Mostly because they are AP students and off in college now for the former ones. One Good Move has a copy of BillO's show interviewing the kid who apparently jumped straight to lawyers as step one, even though the LA Times article quotes Chad's (the kid) sister as saying they exhausted their options. The lawyer makes a comment about a former student who is now a "intolerant Christian-Hating know-it-all" due to Corbett's (teacher) teaching. He must be good.

Blog readability is High School?

What a crock!

Apparently Agraphia got Genius so I checked mine to see and "high school". Sure, it clearly just does a find match ranking and perhaps a word length check (if you're lucky) to make up a fairly arbitrary ranking. But apparently I rank High School...

I feel like I'm being punished for making the material understandable... because what it is really saying that the blog is tightly wound and incoherent without mass appeal and what I am reading is that him is Genius and me is idiot. That's what I'm reading even if it ain't saying it. Screw this... antidisestablishmentarianism!

I will put a nix on this vexing problem, though I have no empirical evidence that circumlocutions provide even auxiliary benefit to one's rank on the aforementioned arbitrary blog metric. I am attempting to achieve possession of no liquid monetary possessions (as the idiom should read) via a vocabulary far exceeding the mundane vernacular of one's secondary education.

Break, Burn, Blow.

So apparently another year of really bad fires like four years back. Though this time we have crazy strong winds. My house is kinda in shambles. In so far as the fence blew down the roof part of the annex tore up. RV in back got shredded. House is filled with dust. It's raining ash. My brother is trapped up the hill. My sister is trapped at my other sister's house because frankly the whole let's go to San Diego thing is a total lost cause. I'm still trapped without internet. The power comes and goes. The air is smoke filled from time to time. The freeway system is clogged and nearly unusable. I'm out of soda. Hundreds of thousands are evacuating. Mass walkouts in local high schools (about half of all the kids, only the one I know about). Little mountain burnt down. I could have had one more piece of cheese cake. I don't have work in the morning. I'm going to get work in the morning. My title is an allusion to John Dunn. Which is itself a pun on the father, sun, and holy spirit (all of Dunn's poems are either about Sex or God and they both have both in them). A bunch of cans blew somewhere in the yard and I need to go find them and put them in a bag. There is no set pattern to these notes.
