Thinking about it...Interesting, thanks for sharing. Thinking about it, a crude approximation that I've used in the past isn't even that far off:

d1 * d1 + (d2 * d2 << 2) + (d3 * d3 << 1)

The weights are (1, 4, 2) and their square roots are (1, 2, 1.41) so the ratios roughly correspond :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-344810805089119836.post-1679274738789036612015-03-03T00:33:01.987-08:002015-03-03T00:33:01.987-08:00The wrong weights are. In fact a lot of color spaces that use gamma will produce it with exactly those weights. The problem is the question people typically want with the weighted distribution is a slightly better than Euclidean metric for determining how far apart different colors are from each other. You'll run into those numbers to try to make the color distance metrics a bit better, and all they'll do is give gamma a huge role to play as a substitute for actual color distance.
Tatarizehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06655536699564744308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-344810805089119836.post-68319120384048720142015-03-02T23:52:29.055-08:002015-03-02T23:52:29.055-08:00The weights are for 1.0 gamma? The weights are for 1.0 gamma?MarcVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07669686865163436424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-344810805089119836.post-16036835077158087822011-09-22T04:24:45.947-07:002011-09-22T04:24:45.947-07:00I'm not even going to attempt this one.I'm not even going to attempt this one.Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05066305094627200999noreply@blogger.com
